Residential Permit: $100.00
Commercial Permit: $100.00 (Minimum)

Please note that commercial driveways have a minimum permit fee of $100.00. For residential driveways, the same fee applies. Our goal is to ensure the safety and functionality of all driveways in Oxford.

The streets in Oxford are meticulously maintained and operated by either the City or the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). To maintain the integrity of our roads, we require all applicants to obtain the necessary permits before commencing any driveway construction or modifications.

If you’re constructing or making modifications to a driveway on a NCDOT street, you will need to fill out and submit the NCDOT Driveway Permit application to the NCDOT local district office. How to Apply

Applying for a driveway permit is simple and straightforward. Just follow these easy steps:

  1. Driveway Permit Application Instructions

    1. Print and Fill Out the Application: Driveway Permit Application

    2. Complete the Driveway Permit Application:

      • Include a site plan detailing the location of property lines, the driveway, existing or planned buildings, and all utilities.
      • Provide the driveway details, including the materials used and the dimensions.
    3. Submit the Application and Pay the Permit Fee:

      • Pay the applicable permit fee at City Hall (300 Williamsboro St.), Finance Department, on the first floor.
      • Remember to keep your receipt!
    4. Begin Construction:

      • Once you have an approved driveway permit, you can start the construction.
    5. Schedule Inspections:

      • Contact the Public Works Department at 919.603.1150 to schedule the necessary inspections.
      • Two inspections are required: one before the placement of materials and one after the installation to ensure proper completion.
