Currently, the Oxford Police Department has an authorized strength of 31 sworn officers, two full-time and three part-time civilian employees. Sworn officers are assigned a variety of functions and have opportunities for lateral transfer or potential promotion in a number of different areas:

Sworn Officer Requirements: Candidates must be at least 20 years of age, be a high school graduate or equivalent (further education is highly desirable), a U.S. citizen with no criminal arrests or convictions of serious charges, possess (or be able to obtain) a N.C. operators license and have a driving history with no significant traffic violations. All candidates will undergo a formal interview board process, a rigorous background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screen and physical exam prior to appointment.
