Senior Sports

Oxford Parks & Recreation Department enjoys planning sporting activities for our senior citizens too!

  PickleBall

Pickleball - Open play is currently scheduled at Hix Gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Equipment is provided, or bring your own. Beginning pickleball players are welcome Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. (During Summer Camp, pickleball is available from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m. on Fridays only.)
Fit After 50 Fitness Program - The Fit After 50 (FA50) Workout Center is offered through Oxford Parks & Recreation and is located inside Hix Gym at 313 Spring Street.  The facility is open from 7:30 am until 4:30 pm for individuals aged 50 years or older.  Regulations are in place for use of the facility/equipment in a comfortable, fun, and safe environment. Fees may apply. Membership packets are available.

Walking - Walking is available for Senior adults at Oxford Recreation Complex (Hix Gym) Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 9:00 am and from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. (Exceptions made on days requiring maintenance or when special events are in progress).  This facility provides shelter from the elements and a safe walking environment.  Cushioned flooring minimizes stress on hips, knees, and feet, which is commonly a problem linked with walking on hard surfaces such as asphalt and concrete.

Fishing: Fishing permits are required to fish at Lake Devin. Lifetime fishing permits are available for ages 65 and up at Lake Devin in Oxford. Please be cautious and carefully follow all safety guidelines in and around the water. Contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 919-603-1135 for more details.

Kerr-Tar Senior Games: This year-round health program for persons aged 55 and up is available through the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments. Each Spring, the Senior Games hosts local athletic and SilverArts competitions. Residents of Granville, Franklin, Person, Vance, and Warren counties are eligible and encouraged to compete.

For structured activities, crafts, exercise, and outings contact the Granville County Senior Center at 919-693-1930.
