STREET DEPARTMENT

The City of Oxford Public Works Department houses the Street Department.  The Street Department consists of 10 man crew and its Supervisor David Cottrell.  The primary function of the Street Department is to maintain streets; pour sidewalks, curb and gutter, and asphalt; install street signs; remove dead trees from right-of-ways; mow right-of-ways; clean up after natural disasters, such as the removal of brush and snow and remove leaves during leaf season.  Leaf season begins in mid-October through mid-January.

The Street Department maintains 36.53 miles of city streets in Oxford.  The North Carolina Department of Transportation maintains all state roads within the City.  The City of Oxford receives state money through the Powell Bill; this money is used to maintain streets through repairs and improvements.

The Street Department is located at our Public Works Facility, 227 West McClanahan Street.  Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  To reach the department, call (919) 603-1132 or send an email to:  publicworks@oxfordnc.org
