STREET DEPARTMENT
The
City of Oxford Public Works Department houses the Street Department. The
Street Department consists of 10 man crew and its Supervisor David Cottrell.
The primary function of the Street Department is to maintain streets; pour
sidewalks, curb and gutter, and asphalt; install street signs; remove dead trees from right-of-ways;
mow right-of-ways; clean up after natural disasters, such as the removal of
brush and snow and remove leaves during leaf season. Leaf season begins in
mid-October through mid-January.
The Street Department maintains 36.53 miles
of city streets
in Oxford. The North Carolina Department of Transportation maintains a ll
state roads within
the City. The City of Oxford receives state money through
the Powell Bill; this money is used to maintain streets through repairs and
improvements.
The Street Department is
located at our Public Works Facility, 227 West
McClanahan Street. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00

CEMETERY
In addition to the Street Department,
David Cottrell also supervises another Public Works Division, the Cemetery.
He oversees two men who are assigned to maintain the 16 acre city owned Elmwood
Cemetery.
