DOWNTOWN OXFORD

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

OUR VISION
Downtown Oxford will continue to be the hub of the community and the center of its economic vitality.  Downtown will offer residents and visitors alike a variety of unique shopping and recreational experiences both day and night.  Here everyone - young and old, singles and families - can enjoy entertainment, dining and shopping in an attractively renovated, safe and landscaped setting.  Downtown Oxford is where you want to be.

Downtown Oxford Economic Development Corporation was organized to stimulate downtown economic development in Oxford, North Carolina while preserving the historical character of the business district and immediately surrounding areas.   Oxford's historic downtown commercial district and the adjacent historic neighborhoods are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  To pursue opportunities in Downtown Oxford or to just find out more interesting information about Oxford, contact Linda Sigmon, Director of Economic Development for Downtown Oxford, (919) 603-1116.

Linda Sigmon is Director of Economic Development working primarily with the downtown Oxford commercial district.  She reports to a volunteer board of directors comprised of members of the downtown business community who own either businesses or property there.  She is responsible for maintaining and improving the vitality of the downtown through advising new businesses, strengthening, existing businesses through promotional and educational activities, and finding ways to improve the physical appearance of the downtown commercial area.  Ms. Sigmon holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in education, both from Duke University.  Following six years of secondary school teaching, she spent seventeen years in alumni relations and university development at Duke University and the University of Virginia.  She has been with the City of Oxford since January, 1996.
