Uniform Patrol Division

The Uniform Patrol Division is the backbone of the OPD, commanded by a Lieutenant who handles all administrative and operational issues for the patrol function of the agency. The Patrol Division consists of four squads. Each squad is made up of a Sergeant, Corporal and three patrol officers when at full staff. Our Sergeants are key personnel in the OPD for leadership and accountability within the division.

The patrol division is responsible for handling the bulk of the calls for police service in the city as well as a wide variety of other responsibilities such as; traffic enforcement, accident investigation, service of criminal papers, funeral escorts, report writing and administrative duties along with answering those calls for assistance from the community in the area of crime control, crime prevention and apprehension.

Officers in the patrol division work twelve-hour shifts and rotate between day and night duty. Our patrol officers along with all sworn officers in the agency attend a wide variety of training during a given year to include mandated training of 24 hours annually. Our officers must also appear in court on a regular basis, work security for many events in the city and participate in annual outreach programs like National Night Out every year.

The ultimate goal of the Patrol Division is focused on the reduction and deterrence of crime in our community, protecting life and property and in maintaining a collaborative and positive working relationship with the community at large.
