Departments

The mission of the City of Oxford is to serve  and improve our community by providing high quality affordable services, sound planning for growth and development, and offering the highest possible quality of life - while maintaining the public's trust through open communication and ethical standards at all times.  Click the links below  for more information on our departments and how they can be of assistance to you.

Executive

The Executive Department includes the City Manager, City Clerk, Downtown Economic Development Director, and Administrative Assistant.  This Department is primarily involved with presenting policies, ordinances, and other matters of business to the Mayor and Board of Commissioners as well as implementing the actions of the Board.

Engineering

The Engineering Department maintains responsibility in all phases of engineering for the City and the Waste Water Treatment Plant, including all construction and engineering inspections.  This department is also responsible for mapping, traffic engineering, and signs.  

Facilities Maintenance

The Facilities Maintenance Department oversees maintenance of City-owned  buildings and grounds, as well as medians and planters in the downtown.

Finance

The Finance Department is responsible for utility billing/collections, accounting, financial management, fiscal operations, budgeting, purchasing, payroll and customer service.  The department also coordinates garbage and recycling services and issues Privilege Licenses for the sale of beer/wine and for taxicab services.

Fire

The Fire Department protects the community from the adverse effects of disasters and emergencies by employing highly motivated, well-trained fire personnel who use proactive and cost efficient approaches to emergency response and public fire education; provides fire suppression, emergency medical in a first responder capacity, and technical rescue.

Human Resources

The Human Resources Department is primarily responsible for the recruitment and selection of personnel, organizational development and training, employee and retiree benefits, and employee policies and procedures.  The department also oversees employee safety and Risk Management.

Parks and Recreation

The Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of cost-effective and high quality recreation, sports, environmental, and cultural arts programs and services by programming and operating the City's parks, lake, pool, sports facilities and ball fields for not only City but area residents.   The Department also schedules the use and rental of the various City-owned facilities.

Planning and Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Department develops and implements comprehensive growth and land use plans, and is responsible for all phases of planning, zoning and subdivision administration, and code enforcement.  The Department also issues building and sign permits, and assists various Board and Commissions including Planning, Zoning and Historic Preservation.

Police

The Police Department protects life and property for the citizens and visitors to Oxford.  The Police Department partners with the community by initiating outreach programs for all ages that mentor, educate, and promote prevention.

Public Works

The Public Works Department oversees the distribution, collection and maintenance of all water and sewer services. They maintain City streets, as well as collect leaf and organic debris.  They also work with Waste Industries for garbage and recycling.  This department is responsible for Elmwood Cemetery.
